I’ve been slacking when it comes to movie reviews, so I’m just going to do 6 Even-Quicker Thoughts about some more movies I’ve seen.
Ad Astra is a Brad Pitt space-flick that has a lot of really cool ideas, but it doesn’t fully explore any of them and has an unbelievably underwhelming third act.
The Addams Family
It’s like if Edward Scissorhands got every drop of subtlety squeezed out of it. And Edward Scissorhands didn’t have much to begin with. Also, the character designs of the “regular people” are scarier than any horror movie creature I’ve seen this year. The Addams Family is boring, bland, and unoriginal.
Lupita Nyong’o is a Kindergarten teacher that has to keep her students safe from a zombie outbreak during their field trip to the farm. She is assisted by a washed-up musician and a sex-addict children’s show star. It is as amazing as it sounds. It’s sweet, creative, and very funny. I highly recommend it.
I was very disappointed by Wounds. The trailers looked like a technology-based mystery with a horror twist. No. It’s just a mediocre movie about a stupid online curse. I was expecting horror Searching, but instead I got slightly better Slenderman. It’s a shame, because the actors are doing a great job, and the character relationships showed a lot of promise at first.
Zombieland: Double Tap
Very, very, very fun. It’s somehow just as good as it was ten years ago. Really clever, really sweet, really good.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil
Maybe it’s because I had ridiculously low expectations for this movie, but I thought it was fun! (Especially the third act!) It’s pretty bad, but it’s the fun kind of bad. I still hate the fairies with a passion.
