The Curse of La Llorona is a series of dumb-ass decisions duct taped together to form a film.
- Despite this story being based off of Mexican folk tales and taking place in Mexico, the main family is white. There is no explanation.
- The fact that this movie is in the Conjuring Universe is one of the worst kept secrets in film. Why didn’t they advertise this as a Conjuring movie?
- They keep on setting up interesting spooks but at the end of every scene, they disregard what they are setting up and just do a jump scare!
- This movie is rated R. Why? There is nothing in the movie that would dictate an R rating. This movie would have made a lot more money if it was PG-13. If they were trying to stay true to the Conjuring Universe’s R rating, then why the hell wasn’t it advertised as a Conjuring movie?
- They have a comic relief that is introduced in the third act that strips the finale of the little tension that was there.
- This movie came out way too close to Annabelle Comes Home. Even if this was an original horror movie, two spooky specter movies made by Warner Bros coming out between two months is a big no-no. Why didn’t they release one during the fall like the Nun did last year?
This movie is bad.
