I love the original How to Train Your Dragon to death. It’s a 10/10 in my eyes. The sequel wasn’t as good, but it had amazing action and an ending that packed a punch. I was hoping that the third and final entry would be just as enjoyable and poignant as the first two, but it ended up being a frustrating experience for me. I’ll start with what I liked. The movie is drop dead gorgeous, the soundtrack is amazing, the villain is intimidating, and the ending is perfect. Now for the bad. Hiccup’s “gang”. Not only are Hiccup’s group of friends unbearably annoying and vile, they are given entire subplots that push all the interesting characters to the sidelines. Characters also make decisions and act in ways that feel completely out of character. Toothless, in particular, is treated more like a dog than the partner that he was in the first two.
